Jean-Philippe Sarcos’s love for Handel’s music, declared at the outset, comes through in the pulse he gives to every number, the way two dancers naturally fall into step together. If this choreographic metaphor comes to mind, it is because his conducting seems to draw its inspiration from the undulating energy of the scores — like the march from Rinaldo, so spirited that, carried away by the movement, you catch yourself tapping the floor in time.
