EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMES

Maîtrise de
Saint-Jean-de-Passy

Innovation, excellence, transmission

For the 2025-2026 season, Le Palais royal adds an innovative project of excellence to everything it already does to pass on music. It is creating the Maîtrise de Saint-Jean-de-Passy in Paris: an outstanding musical and choral education that begins as early as nursery school and is delivered during school hours to every pupil (300 pupils in this first year).

Bringing the learning of singing into the school curriculum from the age of three is a genuine innovation. Le Palais royal has designed this ambitious programme around three strands: musical training, vocal technique and repertoire work.

It involves pupils aged three to seven in the first year. Each following year, an additional school level will be added. By the time they reach sixième (the first year of secondary school), pupils will already have benefited from eight years of exciting, demanding and formative musical education.

The aim will then be to organise encounters and exchanges with the other leading French choir schools (Maîtrise de Radio-France, Maîtrise de l’Opéra-Comique, Maîtrise de Notre-Dame…), as well as international exchanges with the finest choir schools such as that of King’s College, Cambridge, the Royal Chapel of Copenhagen, the Escolania de Montserrat, the Wiener Sängerknaben…

With this inspiring project, Le Palais royal intends to nurture in young children a keen desire for artistic fulfilment at the highest level, a taste for beauty, attentiveness to others, an appetite for subjects that complement the core disciplines, memory, a strong work ethic and team spirit…
