For this exceptional concert, Le Palais royal invites you on a musical journey into the heart of Baroque grandeur. Under the direction of Jean-Philippe Sarcos, the orchestra and choir unfold all the solemn power of the coronation works composed by Georg Friedrich Handel for the splendours of the English court.
A royal programme
The famous Coronation Anthems, and above all the dazzling Zadok the Priest, still resound today as the purest expression of eighteenth-century musical magnificence. Written for the coronation of King George II in 1727, these pages have never ceased to be performed at British coronations.
Alongside them, the monumental Dettingen Te Deum celebrates victory and glory in a blaze of trumpets, timpani and voices that lifts the audience. Every musical phrase is conceived to dazzle, to seize, to raise the soul towards a kind of transcendence shared between the musicians and the public.
Let yourself be carried away by an evening where history, fervour and beauty come together in the warm acoustics of the Collège Buffon, for a musical moment whose memory you will long treasure and that you will want to share around you without the slightest hesitation.

« Le decorum est bien là, dans les effectifs et le style grandiose, mais comme à son habitude, la musique de Haendel n’écarte pas la sincérité ni la profondeur. C’est bien là ce qui explique son génie et qu’a bien compris Jean-Philippe Sarcos. Des Coronations Anthems (…), les interprètes insufflent respirations et énergie (…). Le choeur qui chante par coeur et gagne ainsi une évidente aisance dans le geste vocal et la projection du texte souligne dans la ferveur collective le sens glorificateur de la partition (…). Directeur musical impliqué, Jean-Philippe Sarcos ne s’épargne aucune indication expressive pour porter et sculpter la matière vivante de son ensemble : instrumentistes et chanteurs vibrent au même diapason d’une évidente sincérité.
